Private Practice UPDATE

From 30 September 2025, Dr Morris will no longer be accepting referrals for new patients to be seen in his rooms on a private basis. He will, however, continue to support and follow up with his existing private patients. Alongside this, he remains dedicated to his public practice at Royal North Shore Hospital where he provides specialist expertise in both obstetrics and gynaecology.

Obstetric Practice

From 30 September 2025, Dr Alastair Morris will no longer be offering private obstetric care.

He will continue to provide advice and ongoing care for his former private obstetric patients where appropriate. This includes providing access to their medical records.

Dr Morris now focuses on his role at Royal North Shore Hospital, where he provides public maternity care. There, he continues to:

  • Support safe and positive birth experiences

  • Guide women and families through pregnancy and delivery

  • Mentor junior doctors and midwives

With over three decades of experience, Dr Morris has guided thousands of women and families through pregnancy and birth, from pre-pregnancy counselling and antenatal care to informed choices about labour and delivery.

Gynaecology Practice

Private practice

From 30 September 2025, Dr Alastair Morris will no longer be accepting referrals for new private patients through his rooms.

He will continue to provide care to current gynaecology patients, or those that have seen him previously for either obstetric or gynaecological services. 

These patients are welcome to get in touch for gynaecological advice, support with ongoing issues, or to obtain previous medical records. Dr Morris can be contacted via the form below.

Public practice

Dr Morris will continue to provide public gynaecology care at Royal North Shore Hospital.

How to access public care:
Patients should speak with their GP for a referral, which must be submitted through the Northern Sydney Local Health District e-referral pathway.

With specialist expertise in both general gynaecology and minimally invasive (laparoscopic) surgery, Dr Morris remains committed to helping women access safe, effective, and compassionate care.

About Dr. Morris

Dr Alastair Morris (MBChB MRCOG FRCSEd FRANZCOG MD) is an obstetrician and gynaecologist with 35 years of clinical experience, specialising in laparoscopic gynaecological surgery. He has worked in both public and private practice and now focuses on his public role.

He delivers babies, mentors junior doctors and midwives, and teaches advanced laparoscopic skills. He also contributes to the advancement of obstetrics and gynaecology through research and service to the Medical Board of New South Wales when requested.

His principal interest is in minimal access gynaecological surgery techniques. Dr Morris instructs in both basic and advanced laparoscopic skills courses.

As Clinical Director of the Division of Women’s, Children’s and Family Health at Royal North Shore Hospital, he leads programs to improve maternity, gynaecology, neonatology, and paediatric services.

Dr Morris is committed to supporting the next generation of healthcare professionals and improving systems and care for women and families.

Specialist in diagnosing, treating, and managing women’s reproductive health conditions including endometriosis, heavy menstrual bleeding, and fibroids.

Highly skilled in minimally invasive surgical techniques, and a regular instructor in both basic and advanced laparoscopic skills courses.

A dedicated teacher and mentor to medical students, junior doctors, and midwives, and a former conjoint Senior Lecturer at The University of Sydney.

  • 1990 | BACHELOR OF MEDICINE AND BACHELOR OF SURGERY (MBChB), UNIVERSITY OF GLASGOW, SCOTLAND

    This is the primary medical qualification awarded by the University of Glasgow and allows an individual to be provisionally registered as a doctor. A one year medical internship then has to be completed to obtain full registration.

    1998 | MEMBER OF THE ROYAL COLLEGE OF OBSTETRICIANS AND GYNAECOLOGISTS (MRCOG)

    Membership is awarded to British trainees upon passing their professional examinations. These are usually completed by the last two years of training. It is required by the regulatory authorities in the United Kingdom before a practitioner can apply to be recognised as a specialist.

    1999 | FELLOW OF THE ROYAL COLLEGE OF SURGEONS OF EDINBURGH (FRCSEd)

    Dr Morris obtained Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in Gynaecological Surgery. This required an additional year of clinical practice as a registrar in general surgery on top of his training programme in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

    2004 | CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION OF SPECIALIST TRAINING IN OBSTETRICS AND GYNAECOLOGY (CCST)

    Obtaining this Certificate confirms that a doctor has completed all the requirements necessary to be recognised as a specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist within the European Union.

    2004 | FELLOW OF THE ROYAL AUSTRALIAN AND NEW ZEALAND COLLEGE OF OBSTETRICIANS AND GYNAECOLOGISTS (FRANZCOG)

    In order to be recognised as a specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) a clinician must first obtain Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College

    2006 | DOCTOR OF MEDICINE (MD) UNIVERSITY OF NEW SOUTH WALES, AUSTRALIA

    This is a higher postgraduate research qualification, similar to a PhD, and was the culmination of a two year Research Fellowship in Urogynaecology.
